Astaxanthin is a carotenoid (a type of antioxidant) that‘s produced by algae and found in salmon and trout. It‘s also found in microorganisms like the spirulina seaweed.
In the body, astaxanthin is used to create energy. It’s also believed to help reduce inflammation by inhibiting the enzymes involved in inflammation – a problem that can contribute to hair loss.
Some have said Astaxanthin can help with the prevention of pattern baldness in men or hair loss in women which may be caused by DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a hormone that can cause the hair follicles to shrink and get smaller, eventually resulting in less hair.
